Visiting Narayana Cave
The MahaVaipulya Buddha Avatamsaka (Great Means Expensive Buddha Flower Adornment) Sutra says: "There is a mountain in China called Narayana Cave Mountain where limitless numbers of Bodhisattvas who expounded the Dharma dwell." The place referred to in the Sutra is situated at the tip of the Shan Tung Peninsula, on Lao Mountain. Near the cave, the eminent Ming Dynasty Sanghan, the Venerable Master Han Shan (Silly Mountain), established Hai Yin (Sea Seal) Monastery, which was later completely ruined by the Taoists. Today, not so much as a trace of its remains.
The gatha says:
In the Maha Vaipulya Buddha Avatamsaka Sutra, very clearly.
The Narayana Cave was mentioned quite some time ago.
There, limitless numbers of Bodhisattvas right now proclaim the Dharma,
And living beings Who have the affinities enter into the Teachings.
